In testing, I used crosstool-ng-1.20 for both u-boot-2013.04 and u-boot-2015.01.
In both cases only the MLO and u-boot.img file are present in the boot sector. No other files are present.

The results of the 2 tests are below

U-Boot # tذb$U

U-Boot SPL 2013.04 (Jan 16 2015 - 09:51:10)

U-Boot SPL 2015.01 (Jan 16 2015 - 10:51:48)
SPL: Please implement spl_start_uboot() for your board
SPL: Direct Linux boot not active!
reading u-boot.img

....It hangs here.....

I am trying to upgrade/update the most recent versions of software for my igepv2. I tried both u-boot-2015.01 and u-boot-2015.01.rc3 but both give the same error. This is not critical. I can use u-boot-2013.04, I was just curious why u-boot-2015.01 doesn't work - I am obviously missing something. Linux Kernel from linux-omap-2.6.37-6 to 3.18.3? is my next attempt.

Thanks!!
Peter

Hello Peter, The latest tested release is v2014.10. I have checked v2015.01 with same results than you, and we are working to know the main reason of this behaviour.

Hello Peter, you can try to apply this patch:
    http://git.denx.de/?p=u-boot/u-boot-ti.git;a=commit;h=f3b4bc458de3285a04c5f60df6372ad5ca79fa60
I have made some tests and the IGEPv2 bootup without problems.
    Best Regards
    Eduard
