wifi not working on igepv2 kernel 2.6.37 booting from mmc

using igepv2 with the isee 2.6.37 kernel image.

compiled kernel with igep00x0_defconfig.

using my own user defined root file system (compiled from ptxdist distribution)

problem is, that wifi does not seem to come up. every load of the libertas_sdio results in a timeout and message:

libertas: failed to find firmware (-2)
libertas_sdio: probe of mmc1:001:1: failed with error -2

installed the FW files copied from internal nand flash to /lib/firmware in my own root filesystem.

even tried different combinations with "_v9_" as described in several posts in the internet, but did not help.

seems to me as mmc1 is not ready. is reported in kernel meesages at boot up though.

your help is very much appriciated.

HI, Can you remove these parameters from your igep.ini file: buddy=base0010 buddy.revision=B and send your kernel boot log again please .. Manel

    I have exactly the same problem with kernel 3.6.10 that I used before (but went back to ISEE 2.6.37 kernel to check).

    I adittionally tested the 2.6.37 kernel from the mtdblk1 with the same results.

    Furthermore tried to use the libertas kernel modules and firmware from mtdblk1 together with kernel from mtdblk1, but the same problem.

    Completely booting from mtdblk1 works OK with WLAN.

    So something must be different on the ISEE root FS that makes WLAN work, if ISEE root FS is used and makes it fail with any other root FS (but identical kernel).

    Don't know wich could be the problem, but booting from a SD card should work. You can try to create a SD card with latest firmware following these instructions.

    thanks eballetbo, I am sure that isee image also works from SD, but I need to use our rootfs as it contains all our application (control SW, database, server, ...) does anyone have an idea why the wlan does not respond (time out)? are there any important thinks that must be done during init after kernel has booted to get wlan to work?

    The first thing you should check is if the firmware is loaded. Normally userspace application like udev is needed because it loads the libertas firmware.

    Seems the driver can't find the firmware, check that you have sd8686_helper.bin and sd8686.bin files in /lib/firmware.

    reason why we cannot use the isee root fs is that we use the same root fs that is generated by Pengutronix PTXDist on all of our currently supported CPU boards, which are PXA255, Geode LX800, Panda (for testing) and Tegra3 (for testing).

    The other two board types (PXA255 and Geode) are already in the field in about 250 systems.

    Do I have to additionally tell udev where to find the FW files?

    wlan works now, if I directly compile the libertas kernel modules into the kernel, as well as the firmware files.

    nevertheless the kernel now hangs for about 2 minutes after mmc1 is detected. fw download is not assumed to take so long, right? tested this 3 times with always the same delay.

    made further tests.

    tried to copy 60MByte binary file via WLAN / FTP to idepv2 board.

    only come up to 75kByte/s (quite poor performance). I think this is not caused by SD card as the SD at least was able to write 3MByte/s to disk.

    I received the first bunch of Igepv2 boards now.

    Using the same SD-Card as for my tests beginning this year I again now see the 120 seconds timeout when the kernel waits for the wireless module to come up.

    last time this had been solved by removing the "buddy = ..." entry from igep.ini. but now as i use the exactly same sd card, the entry has already been removed.

    what else can be the reason now?

    I'll try to reproduce and see what happens with this timeout. Are you using the igep00x0_defconfig ? otherwise, can you provide your defconfig ?
